MyBook File Transfer Timeout

MyBook (2 years old, Model: 400GB WD4000CO32)

I can open up folders on my MyBook but when I try to access files or transfer them to another hard drive the process times out.

I know the files are there, I can see them, but I can't seem to do anything with them.

Think this is a hardware or software problem? Would reformatting the drive help? I have most of the files backed up in another location.

could be a bad enclosure

if you can ?????? remove the drive from the enclosure and connect it to the computer internally ........ this will prove if its the drive or the enclosure

high quality enclosures are not too expensive ...... around $30.00 buys a very good one !
