old compaq presario hard drive message

i just found my old Compaq, and decided to see if it would work. i turned it on, and i got a message saying no hard drive detectable. what can i do? do i need to replace the hard drive? is there another solution? and how much would it run me?

Make sure hdd is attached properly. Cables may have loosened up.
Find out who made the drive, go to there website and download
diagnostic utility, run it to see whats up with the drive. It may very
well be a bad drive. After assuring its connected go into bios see if
its picked up there.
Hdd's are cheap nowadays, compared to days of old. That is probably
a ide drive, not sata. Price depends on the size, but anywhere from
$60.00 to $200.00 I would suspect.
