New hdd problem
My new WD6400AKS shows up in "My Computer" and bios but is not recognized when trying to install Vista onto it, or trying to clone another HDD to it with Norton Ghost. I can move or copy files to it through explorer just fine though.
Any suggestions on what the problem might be? I've tried different cables, different ports on the mobo(Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L/S3L), a full format and a quick format. |

Re: New hdd problem
Have you gone in to the bios area and looked for an item called something like (not all are named that) Hard Drive Priority or Boot Priority? If so, make sure your drive you want to install on is listed FIRST in that area.

Re: New hdd problem
I've done that and also only had the new drive connected. It isn't recognized either way and asks me to install drivers which still don't make it show. My old drive is SATA as well and it does show up.

Re: New hdd problem
If you can move files to it like you mentioned, then I suggest you do what I did a couple of years ago. Here it goes, "I threw my Norton Products away and stopped using them. The best way to get a good clone is by using XXClone. It is a free program and is used by the majority of Techs here in the hardware area.
If interested, here is a link: XXClone and if you need any information about this program then read the XXclone Tutorial
