i have an external WD HD, it fell a few times after that the pc wouldnt show it on my computer or anything even though it is connected and is showing in the device manager with no problems.
so i decided to remove the HD from its casing and connect it directly into the PC using the sata power and data cables. but for some reason the pc keeps restarting on booting and sometimes shows a BSOD. so i figured i needed a jumper, to make it a slave, so i installed one in the correct position which is pins 3 and 4 as indicated, now the pc starts fine, but the HD is not recognizable by the pc, its like its not connected. ( i noticed that without the jumper the HD would run looking for windows, but with the jumper its very silent, so silent i think its not moving, but maybe thats normal for a slave hd.) so any help ? i really need the data on the HD as i got a very important project to finish. thank you. |

Re: Hard drive problem
well without the jumper windows doesn't start up, it keeps trying to boot from both hard drives and ends up restarting all the time. so how can i get it to work as a slave HD ?
on the HD it says to fit the jumper in pins 3 and 4, i don't really know whats wrong in this issue lol, how does installing an HD normally work ? cuz i tried everything with no luck. it sure isn't plug n' play. EDIT: maybe im not supposed to fit a jumper, but how is adding an extra internal HD should be ? any bios settings to do ? Last edited by subway_savage; 11-25-2008 at 02:21 AM. |
