WinXP SP2 does not detect new 200GB drive
Hi
just installed nice new 200GB 7200 rpm Seagate Momentus in my notebook.Old drive came with Vista Premium but I tried XP(SP2) now and new drive was not even detected!I reinstalled Vista without any problems, new drive is properly discribed in BIOS and in Device Manager(with Microsoft driver) with full 200GB capacity.Still, whenever I am trying XP(SP2)drive is not detected.I ran all tests from Seagate web site-drive is properly installed and operational, but only in Vista.Any help please? Les. |

Re: WinXP SP2 does not detect new 200GB drive
Thanks for an answer
Yes,I guess that`s what happened. My intention was to install XP on a new drive, format and partition it with Partition Magic(uncompatible with Vista)and reinstall Vista into different partition.Drive came as OEM without any installation software.Notebook is MSI PR-200,pretty decent with Vista Home Premium preloaded,Intel Core2 Duo,I already added 2 GB of memory to full 4 GB.OS and all partition settings are on recovery CD.MSI support did not answer,Newegg was not helpfull either(if you do not how to install it,return it).Grateful for any suggestion-Les |

Re: WinXP SP2 does not detect new 200GB drive
ahhhh now i see ....... I think your problem is win xp cant see or use partitions that were made with vista ......... but Vista CAN use partitions made with XP ...... this is just a hunch so pleaseeeee....... folks ....... if I am wrong just correct me without the flames LOL
what I would do in your situtation is wipe the drive with the free downlaod killdisk ....... this will wipe the drive so its just like new then use the drive manfacturers tools (WD= data life guard Seagate = seatools etc etc) to partition and format the drive with NTFS then install XP on one of the partitions and vista on the other if this is your goal?
