Maxtor 80 GB USB hard disk has no drive letter in Win2k SP4
Hello, my 3 GB hard disk on my Laptop Compaq Presario 1245 is almost full. I bought a Maxtor 80 GB USB disk and want it to use as storage device for data and programs. Win2k shows in "system information" Maxtor Mass storage device, 80 GB. But in "My Comrputer" it does not appear. I have no access to the USB drive. What can I do?

Re: Maxtor 80 GB USB hard disk has no drive letter in Win2k SP4
Have you looked in disk mananagement to see if it shows there? It may show as unallocated space and need formatting, just right click on the unallocated space and create a new partition and use all the space for one large partition. Not on a win2k machine right now, you can get there through control panel, administrative tools, computer management, storage, disk management. Or, most likely, as with xp, right click on my computer and select manage, then disk management in the left hand pane.
