Help fixing broken IDE pins on my hard drive

I have a Quantum Fireball 20GB hard drive with four broken pins. The broken pins are 20(key), 22(ground), 38(IDE_CS1), and 40(ground). Which ones of these are necessary for the hard drive to be detected? I've tried the hard drive in two different PCs and with different IDE cables, but it won't be detected by the BIOS. I'm not sending it to data recovery and I'd rather not have to buy a new board for it. I believe I can fix it by putting staples or pins in the IDE holes that connect to the broken pins, but I'm not sure how to do this properly.

I think your best bet is to take it to a jeweler. Those people are experts at working with and soldering in very small places. Might be worth a try.

Would they have the pins to solder into the hard drive? And how much would they charge to do this? Wouldn't it cost a lot more than buying a replacement board for the hard drive?

Yo would have to go ask. It should not be too much, but I would have no way of knowing how they are in your area.
