Suspicious of my Hard Drive Free Space

My hard drive size is approximately 105 gigs. When I open my computer and look at the hard drive properties, it says that I am currently using 83 out of 105 gigs. I have been suspicious of this because I really don't think I am using that much space. I have looked at the different file properties inside my hard drive and they don't seem to add up to nearly 83 gigs. I then installed Treesize and scanned my hard drive with that...and it says that there are only about 40 gigs being used. I was wondering why the hard drive properties says that it is about twice as full as any other method I try calculates it to be. I used disk cleanup and defragmented a few days ago with no real noticeable changes in free hard drive space. I have also ran scans with spybot and avast antivirus and did not find anything.

My laptop is an IBM T61 Intel Core2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz, 2 gigs RAM, 32-bit Vista Business Service Pack 1.

Thanks

Re: Suspicious of my Hard Drive Free Space

do you have itunes?
did you know if you allow it itunes makes copies of all your music because its a dumb program. Even though it can read .mp3 files fine it'll still make a copy into .aac format. so if you have around 20 gbs of music it'll become 40 for no reason
on vista media player 11 is better than itunes.
for me I have 70 gb of music so that would be 140 gbs of music for no reason even though I converted all my music formats to .mp3, so I leave itunes ne mostly except to rarely update my ipod

Re: Suspicious of my Hard Drive Free Space

Yeah I defragmented, ran disk cleanup, and ran antivirus, antispyware, etc.. Treesize is only picking up 38 gigs and that's around what I calculated when I added up all of the file sizes on my hard disk, but for some reason it still says that there are about 80 gigs on it when I look at the properties. It fluctuates pretty regularly by about 2 gigs in both directions. I'm not a computer expert by any means, so I was thinking that maybe it is just something that I am unaware of.
