Can I Use Recovery Discs

I want to upgrade my HDD since it's only a 160GB one, if I do that, can I use a recovery disc to set it up, or would I need to have an actual Windows disc?

if the current disk has a restore partition on it you will need to copy that over to the new disk to be able to use the recovery disks
most hard drive makers have a utility to do this
