Re: SATA drive question
If by instantly you mean as soon as Vista recognizes the removable device as a HDD and set's it up for use... yes. The dock should act as any other external. It's more or less an adapter for a SATA drive, but will still use USB for data transfer. Assuming you've had no trouble with ex. USB drives - this should be no different.

Re: SATA drive question
Im going to bring this one back to life (last post was 2 weeks ago) by asking my question here as well - As my question is very similar imo
I had Windows Server 2k3 and a Linux OS distro partitioned onto a WD800xx SATA HDD that I used for school - Between these two partitions exist a lot of files and programs that I thought would be there when I accessed the HDD from my PC at home via a SATA to USB adapter. All I am seeing are a few folders and files, but not everything. Its frustrating thinking I should probably know the answer to this but, I must admit defeat and ask for help here. Is it just something like I should be booting from this HDD? |

Re: SATA drive question
You Probably had desktop shortcuts that allowed you to easily navigate your folders, so when you boot up off the disk everything is fine what you can do is create a new folder in MY Documents and copy all shortcuts off desk top into it, as for the folders on your desk top, simply create shortcuts for each one and put the shortcuts into the new folder, (call it desktop shortcuts or something so you can identify it after), now when you use the drive in a dock or as a secondary internal or use sata to usb cables you can go to my documents find the new folder you created and you have a virtual desktop in a folder, it,s not ideal but it works.
Hope this helps I have the same problem & this worked for me. |
