Velociraptor Raid 1 Failure x 2
Could my luck be this bad:
In my entire life, I have had 1 hard drive massively fail, an '07 Raptor X. I decide to build a new system using 2 brand new 300 GB Velociraptors in Raid 1. I am using a brand new Intel extreme mobo with the on board Intel Matrix Raid controller. With in 5 days of finishing the build and creating the Raid 1 (with the 2 identical 300gb Velociraptors), I get a Port 1 failure error (under Status, it reads: Failed). I reboot the PC, and no help. So, I turn off the RAID, and check the "bad" drive for issues and it comes up fine. I then reformat the bad drive and build the raid 1 again. It works fine for 10 days and just now, it fails again with the same error: "A Raid Volume is degraded, but may be built on a non raid disk". Is it really possible that the only 2 hard drives to ever fail on me (in close to 20 years) are both the most expensive SATA HD's made? It just sounds too hard to believe. What else could be going wrong for the RAID1 to keep failing? Are there known issues with the Intel onboard Raid controllers? Should I buy a PCI Raid Controller? Or do I just have really bad luck? |
