Western Digital circuit board to laser melted

One of my hard drives has just failed. Windows XP no longer boots and it was temperamental for a short time before giving up the ghost.

I used Knoppix to identify the faulty drive and removed it from the computer. A quick scan revealed that the connecting membrane between the circuit board and the laser featured a black burn mark. I suspect that poor cooling in the case, and three drives being present, resulted in the heat from the lowest drive melting the strip on the drive above it.

I am hoping this is the fault and not something internal. How would I go about fixing this please.

Could I simply connect the circuit board to the pinout solder points on the laser with wire ?

Could I make a thin membrane and use silver circuit paint to fashion a connection ?

I only need time to pull off the data (its only a 30gb drive). Would either of these options work? And if so is there anything I should be aware of.

If these arent possible solutions could someone please provide one.

Thanks
