Does my Asus Z96j support Sata 300 and NCQ??
I've done some research, but I get information overload. From what I can tell, Sata 300 is backwards compatible with Sata 150, except with some of the older Sata 150 controllers?
Does anyone know if my Asus Z96j motherboard(I hear its actually the HDD controller??) will work with Sata 300? While I'm asking, what about NCQ?? And the last Q; Other than opening up my computer to look for a sticker, how do I determine my motherboard model number/specs? Can I do it from the OS or BIOS? |

Re: Does my Asus Z96j support Sata 300 and NCQ??
If you are thinking of replacing the H/D for a Sata 300 then your going to waste your money. You will never be able to see the so called difference in the speed. If you did buy a 300 then to make work in a 150 you simply move the jumper.
To find out the specs of your comp get hold of Everest software. Or go here: http://support.asus.com/download/dow...s&model=Z96Js: |

Re: Does my Asus Z96j support Sata 300 and NCQ??
I'm really not going after a new drive soley because it is Sata 300, but because of the bigger size. It just happens that the biggest size is on the newer drive which is Sata 300. The drive I'm looking at is the 320GB http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/pro...mentus_7200.3/
Why do you say I'll never see the speed? Is it possible my controller is already Sata2 ready? Also why does the Seagate site list those drives as 3Gb/s, when Sata2 is 300Mb/s?? Thanks
