WDC 2500jb and smart check
hi guys. quite a whiel ago i got alerted to the fact that this hd was failing. i backed up all my data etc abnd put it away. i decided to pull it back out and im using it again.
seems the reason it "claimed" it was failing was due to spin p speed. ive been running a few hd diag progs and i cant find anythign wrong with it. although the spin up speed is still labled as failing. however i recently looked up a prog named speed fan and they give an in depth analysis. this is what it says. Your hard disk is a WDC WD2500JB-00REA0 with firmware 20.00K20. The average temperature for this hard disk is 35C (MIN=22C MAX=47C) and yours is 44C. Your hard disk's S.M.A.R.T. attributes are now being analyzed and a full report about the reliability, health and status of your hard disk is generated: Your hard disk is not below any attribute threshold. This is good. Warning: Spin Up Time reached, in the past, its threshold. Worst value is 0 and threshold is 21. This is an unusual situation because it looks like your hard disk, in the past, failed the S.M.A.R.T. status check, but now it appears not to be failing. You should double check it. A backup of your data is strongly suggested. Your hard disk is now being compared to real data used to define normal values for your specific hard disk model. This way, the analysis can automatically use proper operating ranges. The images give you an idea of how each attribute is within such range. Current and raw values are shown for easier reference for experienced users. There are 2228 hard disk models in the current archive. Attribute Current Raw Overall 10 Raw Read Error Rate 200 0 Very good 10 Spin Up Time 205 4708 Very good 0 Start/Stop Count 99 1799 Watch Warning: Start/Stop Count is below the average limits (100-100). 10 Reallocated Sector Count 200 0 Very good 10 Seek Error Rate 200 0 Very good 0 Power On Hours Count 85 11389 Watch Warning: Power On Hours Count is below the average limits (93-100). 10 Spin Retry Count 100 0 Very good 10 Calibration Retry Count 100 0 Very good 10 Power Cycle Count 100 795 Very good 10 Reallocated Event Count 200 0 Very good 10 Current Pending Sector 200 0 Very good 10 Offline Uncorrectable Sector Count 200 0 Very good 10 Ultra DMA CRC Error Rate 200 4 Very good 10 Write Error Rate 200 0 Very good NOTE: not all warnings are reflected on fitness and performance overall values as relevancy is based upon the settings from the hard disk manufacturer who is the best entity deputed to define such relationships. NOTE : your hard disk Power On Hours Count attribute current value (85) is below the normal range (93 - 100) reported for your specific hard disk model. Basically your hard disk was powered on for more than the maximum time the average user did. This means that either all of the reports collected are from hard disks that were not powered on for too long (this is realistic for recent models) or that your hard disk is becoming old. Usually this is not considered as a pre-failure advisory, but you should check whether you want to replace the hardware or keep an eye on its performances over time. The overall fitness for this drive is 99%. The overall performance for this drive is 100%. please forgive hte bad formattign damn copy and paste. anyway ive been monitoring it for about a week now and it seems to be staying stable at 198-205 it varies a bit. not sure how worried i should be. after reading "Your hard disk is not below any attribute threshold. A backup of your data is strongly suggested." im even more confused. hdd stats arent really my strong point. let me know what you think. and if possibele how can i "double check" it. ive used this and the wd prog off them. and for some reason DFT doesnt even see it heh. also is there a way to reset the smart data so i cna see if the proble occurs again? thanks Last edited by 89camaro; 11-04-2008 at 07:17 PM. |
