I installed a external hard drive, I see the drive on my computer but not recognized on disk management. Drive does not operate properly. What is needed to fix problem?

You are going to have to tell us a little more about what you have. What kind of drive it is, did you get the new hardware message when you first plugged it in? Try to tell us as much about what you have at this point all we know is you have a drive that is not working.

good morning
I am trying to install an ion or iogear 3.5 external hard drive. It is a hi-speed usb 2.0/firewire HD. I do receive a message new hardware is found, and then a message hardware is installed and ready for use. I see the drive on my computer, but not in the disk manager window. I asked the person who I purchased drive from to try installing on his computer again. He did and was able to copy three different files to drive. I installed drive back in my computer and I was unable to open any of the files. I have used different usb ports and it makes no difference. I have windows xp pro on my computer. I also get a message when trying to copy a file to drive "windows-delayed write failed try another source". I hope this will help thanks |
