Hi everybody!
To start off, Let me tell you what hardware/software I’m working with -TestDisk version 6.10 -500 gig Maxtor DiamondMax 21 SATA 1.5 hard drive Also, here are links to the forum posts/online documentation I’ve researched prior to this posting: Post 1: [SOLVED] External HD not formatted all of a sudden Post 2: Have you "lost" a hard drive, partition or files in your computer? Online Doc 1: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Step_By_Step Okay now to the problem. I know I have a corrupt boot sector. My problem is similar to the person in Post 1. Like him, I tried following the steps listed in Post 2 and I only got to step G. I’ve tried repairing the boot sector by going into the Advanced then Boot and then Rebuild BS. I’ve tried rebuilding the boot sector many times and have gotten different messages. For instance I tried rebuilding and it searched for the boot sector and didn’t find it, then it scanned the entire drive and when finished said it couldn’t determine the amount of cylinders. Then when I tried to rebuild it again, it just searched for the boot sector and then just said that it couldn’t find it. I also noticed that the partition is in FAT16. This drive is just a single partition and contained data so it had no boot partition on it, but I was under the assumption that it was NTFS. Is there a reason why it would be showing FAT16? I’ve included the picture showing you pertinent info for this problem. Thank you in advance for you help! |
