Hard Drives not showing up.

Hey, I just installed hard drives in my computer, bringing the total to 6. All 6 of them are SATA2 Hard drives, and my windows only shows 4. Is there something I need to do to get them to show? All the cables are plugged in firmly, all powered. Any ideas are welcome, correct ones are preferred. :P

Re: Hard Drives not showing up.

it's a 600w thermaltake purepower power supply, so I was thinking it would have no issues. My computer's specs are in my sig, so that's the other stuff taking up power.

Re: Hard Drives not showing up.

I used that calculator, and it says 906w, which I dont think is right, seeing as with the hardware that's working right now (4 HDDs), it says 828w.

Re: Hard Drives not showing up.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a
Quote:
600w thermaltake purepower power supply
is not a great power supply. That model is one of the weaker ones by that company. The only great power supply by Thermaltake is the "Toughpower" series.

My second concern, if you are running dual 8800's in sli, you are way underpowered with a 600 watt power supply. You need a bare minimum of a 750 watt power supply at the very least. I suggest the Corsair 750 as the bare minimum or even the PC Power & Cooling 750.

One can not be sure if not seeing them is the cause of your problem, but it very well could be. My real concern is the possiblity that running this rig underpowered might cause you to burn up other components on your rig like video card(s), memory, motherboard.....and the list goes on.

IMHO, you need to take care of the lack of power first, and then you can deal with the hard drive issue if that is a problem after you fix the obvious lack of power in this rig.

Re: Hard Drives not showing up.

Would the Corsair HX1000 be overkill then? Because that's the one I've been looking at.

No, that would not be overkill. That would be a great solution for you.

Re: Hard Drives not showing up.

It's be an overkill for your wallet though. Don't those things cost about $200-$300.

You might be able to use Live.com's cashback program to get 30% off thru ebay.

Re: Hard Drives not showing up.

So I bought the power supply... aaaand nothing. Is there any other reasons for six HDDs being hooked up and only 4 registering?

Re: Hard Drives not showing up.

Do your drives appear in Disk Management (Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management)

check if the 2 that don't show are on ports that need a chipset driver loaded to enable the ports

That might be my problem... The two drives not showing up are not in the disk management, that was the first thing I checked, but when I get home I'll try checking for some drivers for it. I've got the Asus crosshair 2 mobo, so that very well might be the issue. Thanks

Re: Hard Drives not showing up.

Problem still exists, I didn't see any drivers or updates that would fix the issue. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, can someone else double check for me in case I missed something? It's Kinda starting to bother me.

Re: Hard Drives not showing up.

First of all, I refuse to do a bios update, that's why I have this mobo in the first place. Updating the bios bricked my last asus board and asus' 'brick fixer' didn't do crap. Second, where would I find a raid driver? I don't remember seeing it on the website or I would have tried that.

Re: Hard Drives not showing up.

on your m/b setup disk
there are 2 raid drivers on the asus site for your m/b
1 for the onboard slots
1 for the rear sata slots
with asus you can recover a bad flash from the m/b setup disk
