Hard drive Erases previous changes Every Startup
Hi all, new member here. I have a strange problem with the storage hard drive. Windows isn't installed on it, I only use it for storing large files. I mainly use it for all my photos taken on vacations etc. Recently it started acting up. This is what happens- I create a folder and copy all my camera's photos into it. I can then open those files and edit them as I wish. It works for days as long as I don't restart the computer. If I restart the computer, it erases everything I just created. It's "groundhog day", the hard drive looks like it did before I added the folders, everything goes back exactly the way it was before. I don't know where to start, this one has me completely stumped. I've had many many problems in the past that were wierd, but nothing like this.
On a side note, possibly related, I also have a new shut down problem. When telling the computer to shut down, it will continue running for 20 minutes. I've gone to tweakxp.com and tried all the little tricks for speeding up the shut down process..... perhaps that's why it won't save any changes? The computer also will randomnly turn itself on for no reason. And when I manually tell the computer to turn "ON" it does nothing, but after about 15 minutes it suddenly fires up and begins booting! It's like it has to charge itself up for 15 minutes before it can actually "Power up". Very strange but still interesting problem. I hope to figure it out without doing a generic fail safe "reinstall windows" solution. |
