Dimension 9100 will not boot
Hi,
I have a Dell Dimension 9100 P4, 630 (3.0GHZ) HT, 2MB computer runs on Window XP. Just two days ago, it shut down itself. It would not boot and the screen remains black. My monitor is good for sure, and the memery cards are fine too. When it is powered on, the green lights goes on from 1 to 4 to HD, then go back to stay at green lights 2 and 3, and finally when green light 1 shows up, it makes two beeps, then, 1,2 and 3 lights remain on. I disconnected the wires go to the hard drive, the computer does the same things and the green lights 1, 2 and 3 are on. While it is turned on, I tried F8, F2, but no use. Do I have a bad Motheboard or Hard drive? Hope someone can help. Thanks. |

Re: Dimension 9100 will not boot
Have you tried to boot with each individual stick of RAM in every slot on the motherboard? If you have and still nothing then it could be a board issue. If the RAM only works in certain slots then it is the board.

Re: Dimension 9100 will not boot
Yes, when I took both of the memery cards out, only #1 green light on. however, when either one sticked on, it does the same thing with green light 1,2 and 3 on. The monitor's screen remain black all the time. Could be a hard drive problem?

Re: Dimension 9100 will not boot
OK, here was what I just did: I got a good SATA hard drive, which I know is good because it work fine on my friend's computer, I connected it to my Dimention 9100, the computer still did the same sequence lightening and stay at green lights 1,2 and 3 just after two beeps. in the whole process, the screen remain black.
Is this indicating the motherboard was corrupted? Someone please help! |

Re: Dimension 9100 will not boot
Thanks alot for the replies.
I finally figured out the problem. I had the digital cable connected to the monitor, so no matter what I do, the screen is black. I realized and changed to the analog cable, then I can see the booting signals and was able to control the computer. My computer is currupted and I had to reformat it, unfortunately. The curruption was apparently caused by the Win32.... virus. Thanks again for help. |
