wd hd error code 104

My wd sata hd is seen in bios but when computer boots up in safe mode it stops at mup.sys and then reboots. I tested the hard drive with wd diagnostic tool and I got error code 104 "drive not ready". I have an IDE drive that I set up as primary drive in system and then Windows XP does not see the sata drive. Is there a way for me to be able to retrieve the files off the sata drive? Would I have to reinstall the sata drivers on the new windows install on IDE drive for windows to recognize the sata drive? Thanks

is the bios set to see sata as ide

Yes, bios is set to sata and it does see the hd but windows xp on ide hd does not recognize the drive.

booting from the ide go into disk management and see if the sata is listed there
