Before Windows starts up, I have to select which OS, even though they are the same...

I recently, tried to clone my old HDD onto a larger one. After it cloned everything, before Windows could start up it made me select which OS i wanted to use. Both OSs are exactly the same one, Windows XP, and make absolutely no difference between the one I select. What can I do here? Someone recommended to me to work through the problem by running msconfig, but every time i try and run it through run, the hour glass shows up, then goes away and nothing happens.

In safe mode, Try this . . Click on Start . . Run . . type msconfig . . click on the Boot Ini tab and click on Check all boot paths . . if it comes back with one is invalid, click Fix invalid boot paths

I just tried it in start mood, same thing--the hour glass pops up for a second, goes away, nothing happens.

Re: Before Windows starts up, I have to select which OS, even though they are the sam

Here's the quick fix...

Right click My Computer (desktop icon)
Advanced (tab) -> Startup and Recovery - Settings (button)
--------------------------------------------------------------
Startup and Recovery (dialoge box)

System startup

Default operating system:
"Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=option ***

Uncheck Time to display list of operating systems

Click OK and OK, and you're done.
--------------------------------------------------------------

This part is optional

*** Here you can select the default drive you want to boot.

Tip1: You can click Edit to see which drive is being used as the default drive

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0 )rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" this is the master drive
multi(0)disk(0) rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" this is the slave drive

Tip2: You can also edit the text field to something more descriptive like:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP cloned backup Sept2008"
