Re: Recovery disk
Clicking sound from a hard drive is bad. May indicate a hardware failure. (In more benign scenarios could indicate bad or underpowered power supply, so I'd check that out too - not an expert on power supplies so you may need to ask someone else on the forum about it. Also check all the cables (data and power) are properly connected to the drive.).
Can the BIOS detect the drive? When you start your computer it may list the drives connected . Is the drive still listed there and is the information correct? If it's not listed there, you can try checking in the BIOS setup (you may have to press a key to enter it - Del or F10 or whatever key it is for your brand of computer). If you look around, you may find something like "primary IDE" set to automatic, and if you press enter while highlighting it, it may display the hard drive information. If the drive still doesn't appear detected in the BIOS it's likely a hardware failure. If you have really important data on it you need to salvage, you may have to send it to a data recovery company (they cost an arm and a leg though). If there's nothing of importance and the drive is still under warranty, you can have it replaced by the manufacturer (you will see the brand on the drive label). |
