Maxtor 541dx
THis may have been asked before but I coulnt find it
So here goes I have a Maxtor 541dx that the system recognizes wrong and fails on bootup. Ive goggled the fault and it seem there is a common fault with this drive that the firmware becomes corrupt. The problem is that there is a down loadable program to fix this but its no longer available. every goggle search point to the same page (http://www.salvationdata.com/404.htm) and Ive emailed the company concerned and was told they no longed offer this program. Any clues as to how I can fix it?? |

Re: Maxtor 541dx
You could find the program mirrored elsewhere on the web. Google for Maxtor firmware repairer
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...earch&aq=f&oq= Naturally, you might want to scan these with antivirus before running them. Also, be absolutely sure that this will fix your error before running it. (meaning you've got the right symptoms (athena codename instead of drive model number) and the right drive) |

Re: Maxtor 541dx
Thanks
But Ive tried that and it hangs on the Terms and Condition screen. I have read on another Forum that its the Floppy Version The CD version is more reliable Its either I find a copy of the CD version (Seems impossable),find another solution or bin the drive Last edited by nev25; 09-07-2008 at 07:35 AM. |

Re: Maxtor 541dx
I got a hit on emule (search for hfr2.0cdromsetup.rar), but since there's only 2 uploaders for that file, it could take days before you can finish the download.
Also I looked at the salvationdata site and there's two interesting files http://www.salvationdata.com/downloa...for-maxtor.zip That one's 21MB, and you might want to read the pdf manual first. http://www.salvationdata.com/downloa...are/maxtor.rar This one is 490MB (!!!) and I have no idea what it may contain. |

Re: Maxtor 541dx
OK I finished downloading the 490MB file. No programs in there, just a bunch of firmwares (LOTS of them!) There was a text file at the start that lists the directory structure (can't be bothered to check if it's all up-to-date) and I'm attaching it.

Re: Maxtor 541dx
Have you tried the first 'interesting file' link I posted? (The one for HD doctor for Maxtor)
You may have to make some arrangements for it to work properly, because it seems written for Windows 3.1/95/Me. (Usually by going to the program file, right clicking the program file, going to the compatibility tab, and picking Windows 95. |
