Re: Hard drive works as back up but not as master
You should also check that you have a 'cable select' cable. That shouldn't be a problem nowadays, since they're standard, but they didn't use to be at one time. Usually a CS cable will have MASTER and SLAVE written somewhere, or otherwise DRIVE 0 and DRIVE 1 (0=master, 1=slave). If you have a CS cable, then you need to set the jumpers to CS. If you don't have those inscriptions, you have to set the jumpers to master and slave (one of each - can't have both drives use the same). The drive you want to boot from should be set to master (or if using CS, be on the master end of the cable).
When I worked with ATAPI DVD's and ZIP drives, jumper settings were easy: there was one slot for master, one for slave, one for CS... just put it in the right position just like in kodi's pics above. Different brands of HD's will have diff jumper positions though (real mess). It's really important that you check the correct jumper settings in your user manual (though modern drives will have it written on the sticker). Sometimes they tell you to remove all jumpers to attain a setting (master, slave or CS). If you don't have your manual anymore, you can always google the drive model number (it's definitely written on your sticker) for jumper settings. |

Re: Hard drive works as back up but not as master
Making great progress.
Set the boot order to floppy then CD then hdd"c" It's decision time do you want to try a repair option that may or may not work or start off with a fresh slate with no junk or crap on your hard drive? Post back your decision and we will take it from there
