Having errors with the booting.
I am having some issues with my hard drive. Sometimes my computer boot very well with no issues at all. Just before the booting logo, I received an error message at the bottom of the screen, just underneath 'Booting CD/DVD'. The error message said something like this "hard disk failed or error with hard drive". I can hear the motherboard making noises from that beeping thing and that it seems like the motherboard is trying to get access to the hard drive To fix the problem, I had to pull out the plugs from my Seagate Sata II 250gb hard drive and plug it back in. After when that is done, the computer boots well
![]() I can't keep on doing this forever because I can cause serious damage to the hard drive I think. Does anybody know this problem? Last edited by tekkyhead; 08-17-2008 at 06:30 PM. |

Re: Having errors with the booting.
When did this start?
What changed before it started? Please post entire parts list for your PC or model number and manufacturer. In any event, immediately backup the drive and prepare for it to fail at any moment. My signature shows you how to do it safely. Once that's done, test it using Seatools. There are multiple possibilities. Post the parts list for more details. |

Re: Having errors with the booting.
Btw, I haven't had any errors yet but I still used the Seatools program. I did a scan and i eventually passed s.m.a.r.t check and short drive self test but when I did the Long drive self test... it failed!!!! what does that mean =[

Re: Having errors with the booting.
Your drive is likely failing and must be cloned immediately. The instructions are in my signature.
SMART is normally displayed instantly. Did you buy the computer new? If so, the warranty should still be in effect. I asked you to run the drive test after you completed the backup. Please, don't attempt to find shortcuts if you value your data. A long test can occasionally kill a semi-dead drive. We do not repair drives as that's impossible. We clone them and throw away the corpses. |

Re: Having errors with the booting.
So are you suggesting that I should purchase another Hard drive? If buying a new hard drive will solve the problem then I'm more than happy to get a new one to avoid the current problem. thanks you so much Wiselo, great information about the cloning. BTW, What type of hard drive that is compatible with my intel processor? Is the hard drive im currently using right type?

Re: Having errors with the booting.
All drives work. You'll want two drives. One to replace your current drive, and one for backups. You realize how important backups are, right? ;)
As far as external drive, anything but MyBook. We see them here too often. My preference is Acomdata. As far as internal drive, another Seagate should be fine. You'll probably get the current drive replaced under warranty as Seagate is usually 5yr warranty. Check with Seagate for details. Just remember that any work done by a data recovery firm would cost you much more. :) |

Re: Having errors with the booting.
You'll need one new drive if you use XXClone.

Re: Having errors with the booting.
I got the hard drive checked and they said that there were 14 faults in the hard drive. All I needed to do was to download a Seagate Hard drive repair software to fix the issue! I wasted 49 to get it checked out =[ Now where can I download this hard drive repair software?
