Hard Drive missing 140 gigs
Hey guys, new to the forum. My problem: I recently wiped my computer and put in an extra Hard Drive. My Main is a 160 gig Maxtor 6Y160P0, and the other is a WDC 160 gig. The WDC is working fine, I just use it to put music and movies on. The Maxtor however, shows a capacity of 18 gigs. Where did all my space go?

Re: Hard Drive missing 140 gigs
Tell me if when you go into BIOS that Maxtor is recognized by something other than 6Y160P0. Perhaps it says CALYPSO? ;)
If that is the case, I suspect firmware damage. Relatively easy to fix with the right equipment, but impossible otherwise. Of course, it can be something more benign. Go into BIOS and check what it says. Then make the CD from a post I mention in my signature and boot from it. See how it detects the drive. That would eliminate Windows glitches. Re: Hard Drive missing 140 gigs
How are the drives hooked up?
Check the jumper settings. Maxtor = Master at the end of the ribbon cable. Maxtor jumper settings: ![]() Western digital = Dual (slave) at the middle of the ribbon cable. WD jumper settings:
