Re: Cant start my computer/Cant Reformat
Whatever you do, don't go buying Vista to solve it. Vista is a POS. I would get a startup disk and fdisk or diskpartn that drive senseless, then start all over. I would then add one program at a time and make sure everything works, step by step.

Re: Cant start my computer/Cant Reformat
Sabin,
You posted at 3am at night US time... You should be able to get into safe mode, but I am going to bet you have no backup either. Because of that, I suggest you get a backup first and I'll tell you how to do it. You have what appears to be a Windows problem, but it's more likely to be a hard disk problem. So far, it is fairly mild. If you follow my process, you should be able to get your data off the disk. Do not run CHKDSK until you have a complete backup of the drive. After you have a sector-level backup, you should be able to get into "Last Known Good Configuration" by hitting F8 a few times before you see the "Windows XP" pretty black screen. You have access to safe mode from the same screen. |

Re: Cant start my computer/Cant Reformat
Here is a Windows 2003/XP version of what's happening - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937481/en-us
And here is what you'd eventually have to go through if safe mode is not accessible - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545/en-us However, the root cause is likely that the OS can't load a particular file. The likely reason, if you didn't install/uninstall any hardware, is drive corruption. Cloning and restarting with a healthy drive may simply fix the problem and render further troubleshooting irrelevant. If it does not, then you'd have a sector level backup and we'd safely run some tools that change the data on the disk. |

Kinda stuck on Step number 4 and Step Number 5 in your second link.. 4. When you are prompted to do so, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER. It never asks me to type a password and i dont know where to type one in.. and when i get to step number 5 5. At the Recovery Console command prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after you type each line: md tmp copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak I type in "md tmp" and it says access denied.. |

Wiseleo is no longer a member of TSF.
What kind of XP disc do you have? Is it a recovery CD/DVD or a retail disc? If it's a retail CD - boot the computer with the CD, follow the instructions (choose to repair). How to: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...ps/doug92.mspx |

Re: Cant start my computer/Cant Reformat
Well, that can't be right since you get a BSOD when you try to start XP.
Is the HDD a SATA? If so, you have to load a SATA driver (from a floppy) at the start of XP setup. On some motherboards you can set BIOS to run SATA drives in IDE mode. That way you don't have to load a SATA driver. |
