Hard disk problems
Hi ,
Three MOnths Back i bought a PC for me , I am a Graphics Designer and mostly i am using 3D softwares like 3Ds max and Maya and a Drafting software ( AutoCAD ) ,I am doing some freelance work within my home, My processor is Intel Quad Core 6600 ( 2.4Ghz ) and i installed 4Gb RAM and nvidia Graphics card, with 500GB SEAGATE BRACCUDA (SATA) Hard drive, upto last week , it was functioning perfectly and i was so happy with my PC, Some days back i got a problem , i was using it well and i got a call and i had to go to my office and then i shut down and went out and i came back after one hour and i tried to BOOT my computer , But its showing that " BOOT DISK FAILURE, PLEASE INSERT BOOT DISK AND PRESS ENTER" I checked the status on the BIOS and there its not showing the HARD DRIVE, and i tried to chnage the option to automatically detect hard drive, but its not showing and detecting ,I called the technician and he is telling that my HARD DRIVE is dead and I need to change the Drive to a newer one, but my prob is that i have some huge data in my Hard Drive and its so precious to me, Its really valuable to me , so i need to recover it any how, is it possible to get all that data... PLz give me what i need to do and is there anychance for me to get all that data back... |

Re: Hard disk problems
OK...
So the drive is not being detected by the bios. Probably not fixable at home, but let's see what we can find. In order of severity: 1. Controller on the motherboard 2. Power circuits on the drive's controller 3. Controller board failure 4. Internal electronics drive failure 5. Head crash 6. Seized motor We can troubleshoot online up to level 3. After that, you are at the mercy of data recovery firms like mine and it will be expensive. To begin, remove the drive from the system and look at its controller board. If you have a good digital camera, please post a high resolution picture, 4MP or higher, preferably, of the controller board. I'd like to be able to read the text on the microchips. Also, Seagate has 11 generations of Barracuda drives. Please post the model number/date of manufacturing/where it's made/firmware/serial number. Attempt to power up the drive and tell me what sounds do you hear. You may choose to create an audio recording as well. If the drive makes any loud noises, turn it off immediately. See #5 If not, attempt to access the drive from another system. Check if the BIOS sees it. If it does, clone this drive without turning off the system. Operate under assumption that this is the last time it will operate and take appropriate precautions. If the drive is not detected by BIOS in the second system, you will have eliminated reason #1 and the PSU as the possible causes. If it makes clicking noise or beeps, you are done. Those require professional help. Those are #4 and #6 If the drive does not make any attempt to power on, that is actually good news. Likely culprits would be either the power path on the controller board, or the microchip responsible for operating the drive's motor. #2 and #3 That failure can be mitigated by replacing the controller board and/or some soldering. I would be able to tell you if soldering will be required in a board swap scenario once you post the information I requested. Good luck, but chances are slim. |

Re: Hard disk problems
I had this problem one time and it may be an easy fix but this is what i did. Open the computer case. look for the bios short out jumper. move the jumper to short out the bois and it will reset the bios to factory settings. You may have a coruped bios. Im not saying this will work but it did for me one time. its worth a shot.
