IDE hard drive will not load using PCI IDE adaptor card

IDE hard drive will not load using PCI IDE adaptor card
Hello. I have a Gateway 702GE computer. It comes with a sata hard drive and only one ide connector for CD/DVD drives basically. I installed a PCI ide silicon chip adapter card which was working fine in my older computer with ide drives. When I first load the computer, my seagate is identified on the screen as it loads. I just cannot get this ide seagate hard drive to load. The gateway wants to boot from this seagate drive. I have tried playing around with the boot order but it is more complicated than I've seen. It has sets. 1st set is Boot Device Priority: CD/DVD, Floppy, Hard drive, Ethernet. 2nd set is Hard Dirve order: it lists my Sata Western digital 1st, then followed by the Seagate. You can choose to make a Normal or Advance settings. The previous setting was normal. In the advanced, I set it to CD/RW, WesternDigital, Seagate, B3 Do Yukon PXE. Now when I try to boot with the IDE drive in the PCI adapter, I get the message:
Intel Boot Agent PXE Base code (CBA12310BC)
Youkon PXE
Pre-Boot eXecution Environment (PXE)
Client Mac Address
Pxe-E53: No Boot filename received
DHCP
PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE Rom
No Bootable device-insert Boot disk & press any key
As soon as I remove the seagate in the PCI adapter, it boots normally from the Sata WesternDigital drive.

I don't understand why it wants to go to this Youkon PXE. I have no clue what that means. It also seems like it is trying to boot from the IDE drive. Any advice is appreciated.

Re: IDE hard drive will not load using PCI IDE adaptor card

I decided to disable boot on network and now I don't get all those messages. It just says: No Bootable Device. I just don't get it. I have the advance boot order of CD/DVD, WD, Seagate. It should look at the sata WesterDigital drive first.

That won't matter much, in my opinion.

This is a pre-boot problem. I'd call the motherboard's tech support line for the fastest answer.

Re: IDE hard drive will not load using PCI IDE adaptor card

I also believe that a repair would be a waste of time. It boots fine from the installed sata hard drive when I disconnect the ide hard drive. for some reason it wants to boot from the ide drive, even though there is an advance option where I have the cd/dvd, [sata]WD, seagate but it doesn't work. I tried Gateway but they don't want to help you anymore, unless you pay.

Re: IDE hard drive will not load using PCI IDE adaptor card

I may have solved my problem, at least temporarily. In the BIOS-->Advanced-->Drive configuration-->ATA/IDE, there is an option to use either Enhanced or Legacy mode. Enhanced mode is the default. When I used the "Legacy" mode, the computer booted WinXP and the IDE drive loaded fine. I have been reading up on the difference between enhanced and legacy and I'm not sure of how much of a performance hit, I will be getting, in terms of actual Sata performance versus ide. So I will see. I have noticed some grumbling on the internet about sata drives. It's a newer technology and the computers that adapt the newest technology first, often seem to have compatibility problems. Later on the problems get ironed out. Usually once the older technology is phased out, things get better. Seems like a never ending battle. People often hate newer technology at first due to problems.
