Ibm -pc300gl 6564 Hard Drive Not Detected

I have a IBM-PC300GL 6564,I recently tried to install a new hard but it's not being detected. In the BIOS Screen it says "NOT INSTALLED" but when I connect a CD-ROM drive on that same IDE connector it says "INSTALLED"...Why does the BIOS not detect the new hard drive but it detects the cd-rom drive, what can I try to solve the matter?

Re: Ibm -pc300gl 6564 Hard Drive Not Detected

Did you set the jumpers on the new HD correctly?

Here's the rules on HD Jumpers for IDE: (Fist IDE & Second IDE refer to the connections on the same ribbon cable)
  • Primary IDE Connection
    • First HD (C:) - Jumper as Master
    • Second IDE device (HD or CD-ROM) - Jumper as Slave
  • Secondary IDE Connection
    • First IDE Device - Jumper as Master
    • Second IDE device - Jumper as Slave
IN ADDITION:
  • For emphasis, only one Master can be on a ribbon cable, it provides interface to all devices on that cable
  • The standard practice on PC with one HD & one CD-ROM is to place the HD as Primary IDE Master & the CD as Secondary IDE Master
  • When a CD-ROM is on the same cable as a HD, the HD should be set Master to get the fastest data throughput
  • NEVER trust the CS (Cable Select) jumper option, do not use it

Therefore, when adding any IDE device you will likely have to change the configuration, especially the jumpers on the device itself.

Re: Ibm -pc300gl 6564 Hard Drive Not Detected

yes everything is set correctly...but still it not detecting it....the cd-rom drive is on IDE 2 and the hard drive is on IDE 1....both of them on two different ribbons both set to master...the cd-rom is detected no matter what even if i swap (i.e cd-rom on IDE1,hard drive on IDE2,cd-rom on IDE 2,hard drive on IDE1)...but the hard drive still is never detected
