Re: hard drive not recognised
Hi, are we talking about an Hitachi IDE HDD here?
If so, it will have pins between or to the side of the power and cable sockets, that should be jumpered, with a little jumper shunt, to either Master, Slave or Cable Select. It will tell you on the drive surface or on the label , which pins to jumper to achieve each option. |

Re: hard drive not recognised
Don't feel bad... My brand new 500GB drive just died on me completely. You know, the one I was going to start the full backup on later on tonight before I went to bed? *sigh* Apparently now I have 500GB of "unallocated space" God I love Windows :(
Make sure that the IDE channels on the mobo are enabled in the BIOS. If the unit was all SATA, there is a good chance they are OFF by default... If you have OTHER working IDE devices in that box, such as an optical drive, then set the hard drive jumpers to whatever the optical drive is set for (really should be Cable Select these days...), and see if the drive is seen then. Just a thought :) Time for me to play around with my Recovery suites... JUST how I wanted to spend my Sunday night :( Why can I only ever fix EVERYONE ELSE'S problems.... *sigh* |
