Confused hard drive problem

windows wont start up,this problem is on and off,won,t let me start fromwindows xp disc so i can repair mbr or bad sectors,because the pc was slow on startup was advised to put more mem in which we have dun
(john the pilot,chaffeur,innes),have nuked and booted but still having probs starting some times,haven,t partitioned harddrive culd this be prob? graham and carol

You should partition the hard drive after you boot and nuke it. Do that and you might be good to go, but if not, let us know.

thanks for that, have partitioned in half,boot and nuke said there were some bad sectors do you thing we could repair with install disc(xp) thanks graham

Graham, download and run the hard drive diagnostic from your hard drive manufacturer and see if that can repair the errors. The download would be free. I would do that first and then let it partition and format the drive for usage. That is what I would do if it were mine.
