Partitioning existing HD

I have a Maxtor One Touch 500G external drive. When I installed it, I just set up backup times. But I'd like to have partitions for photos and documents because I realized if I deleted photos on my computer, they were deleted on the HD when it did the backup. I'm not worried about losing anything that's on the HD right now, since I recovered the deleted photos, but I don't want it to happen again. How do I make different partitions on the Maxtor?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Partitioning existing HD

I see how to format it from Computer Management, but not how to set up partitions. How do I do that?
Thanks,
Rosie
