Could I put my HD in another computer, install Linux, and put it back in the...

..Original computer? It has Win XP on it now.
I can't run the live CD to install it on here. For some reason it goes impossibly slow. I can't do anything on it, it just freezes up. I think it could be a ram issue. Before I added ram, it would take days to just load up. It would save me a head ache if I could just put the hard drive in a different machine.

The drive is probably dead.

If you don't need the data, throw it away after testing. If you do need the data, follow the directions in my signature.

Well, I believe it has problems, but that's not the reason. The computer uses 2 hard drives. (60 gb and 4 GB) I unplugged the *failing* 60 GB HD and it did the same for the live CD.

It does the same for windows, but the 4 GB HD runs windows just fine

OK, test them in another system.

Don't boot Windows on another system as it will deactivate. Try my technique linked in my signature and see if the disks behave properly.

That's too complicated for me. I can't burn ISO files.. They never work. (even though I have read/ watched guides, and followed them exactly)

It's pretty easy. Get this tool: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com

It's as easy as it gets.

I'm not sure I should risk wasting another disk..=/ I was using isoburn, and that's pretty simple too.

Wait, the 60 GB one doesn't have an os on it. I don't think. And if it does, linux will be replacing it. Will my os of the other computer be affected if I put that hard drive into it?

If you don't need the data, someone else can help you with the basics. :) Good luck
