WD MyBook 500GB gone down
I've got the same problem with my WD MyBook 500GB. I tried to plug it to other computers, other cables, took it out of the HDD case and plug it directly and still nothing. It sounds like it doesnt's spin as it should - in my computer it shows up and then immediately it disapperars..if that. I really don't know what to do and since the disc was nearly full it is a big problem for me :(
btw: I bought it 6-ish moths ago |

Re: WD MyBook 500GB gone down
Well, I am really curious about your statement "it shows up and disappears".
I outlined some steps in my signature. Try them, and let me know if testdisk can see the drive. If yes, you may be lucky and it's just Windows autoplay anomalies. If not, your problem is very expensive to fix. |

See what disk management says about the drive. (Right click "My computer" > choose "Manage" > Disk Management)
If the WD is present in disk management - please post a screenshot. How to post a screenshot. |

Re: WD MyBook 500GB gone down
It's not only autoplay problem. When I said that it shows up and disappears, it's like this: I see the autoplay for a split second and then it's gone. The same I see in my computer...the disc is divided to 3 partitions and every part shows up for a split second. After that it's not visible anywhere - not my computer, not disc management.
The funny thing is, that it works every now and then - yesterday evening started working but now it's going down again - when you open certain folder it says they are empty. Now I will probably buy a new disc, wait (and hope) this one works again, copy it, format it and then return it to the store :) |
