Re: hard drive prob :(

Not a HDD problem.

You need to load drivers for your SATA controller from a floppy disk. Buy a USB floppy and make the driver disks.

For more information search this forum for "USB floppy"

Welcome to TSF.

What computer/motherboard do you have?
Look in BIOS - see if there's an option to run SATA drives in IDE mode.

Re: hard drive prob :(

SATA drivers are only specific to a motherboard chipset. if the mobo uses a VIA chipset, then you need via sata drivers, intel for intel boards, etc.

Here is a pretty good article explaining more about SATA.

Re: hard drive prob :(

Download page for your motherboard: http://support.asus.com/download/dow...l=A8V%20Deluxe

Download this SATA diver: 378ata_100104528.zip
Unzip the file, run "MakeDisk" to create a floppy.
During XP installation - press F6 when asked if you want to load a SATA driver - insert the floppy.

EEK! Re: hard drive prob :(

Hey Guys. I have found an IDE option in the bios and what have you and turned that on. It hasn't seemed to have done anything. Now here is a slightly interesting point... If I unplug the SATA cable from one of the Hard Drives the error message doesn't change "Reboot or select proper boot devices, or insert proper boot media into selected boot device" but if I unplug that one and plug in the other HDD it reads "Error loading OS". Now I've followed your advice on the floppy with the drivers but when I try and install the drivers with the XP install disk (which is all that I can boot from at the moment) it reads the same error message as when I didn't have the floppy "no hard drive is detected... please check the Hard drives power supply and connection" or something to that effect. I'm really stumped on this one guys. The hard drives are both st3800 if thats any help. Besides that I dont know what else to tell you. Thanks for all your input to my crisis.
