xxclone now drives not reconised

Hi there, early on I used xxclone to clone my operating system to another drive, half way through it froze and I had to reboot system.
Now the boot drive will not boot, so I wanted to reinstall xp but now in bios no hardives are reconised. I have tried 3 different drives but I cannot get one to be reconised in the bios. My sata dvd drive is reconised ?

Please help spent the last 3 hrs trying to solve this problem but to no avail.

Thanks

Ranger

Re: xxclone now drives not reconised

Hi Ranger,
With you computer turned off AND unplugged from the mains, take the motherboard battery out and/or clear the CMOS by jumper on the motherboard.
If you only feel comfortable taking the battery out, leave it out for about 15mins then put it back and Boot the pc.

Re: xxclone now drives not reconised

Try unplugging the hard drive and booting into BIOS without it.
Load the BIOS default settings, save, exit and shut-down.
Plug the hard-drive in again, and try booting up to windows.

Re: xxclone now drives not reconised

Re: xxclone now drives not reconised

Multiple fault possibilities:

1. Motherboard fault
2. IDE or SATA controller fault
3. HDD failure
4. Power supply failure

You may be killing drives by plugging them into a malfunctioning motherboard. If you don't believe me, I know of an instance where one malfunctioning external USB enclosure recently killed 3 HDDs for one very unlucky person.

You need to test your hard drives outside this system. The easiest way is to put them in a USB enclosure and attempt to access them from another system. If they are recognized, but file system is corrupt, which is common, then you'd follow my instructions in the signature to get your damaged data off them first before doing anything else.

If you are lucky, your hard drives are still alive and it's something else that's wrong with the system. If not, and your hard drives were killed, that will be very expensive to fix.

There is also one possible motherboard fault that has nothing to do with any of this as well - check if any of your fans accidentally got disconnected or is dead. That's a remote possibility, but I had that happen on one of my imaging stations last night.

Re: xxclone now drives not reconised

Just tried all 3 drives in my icy box dual caddy and all 3 were reconised on my tablet.

Re: xxclone now drives not reconised

Try formatting them (Quick format will be alright) and then try them in your Computer.

Re: xxclone now drives not reconised

One of the 3 drives is brand new yesterday and was formatted so cannot see this would work.

Thanks

Re: xxclone now drives not reconised

Are you confirming that the drives are recognizable and the data is fully accessible from the tablet?

If that's the case, then you no longer have a hard drive failure scenario and we are done. It is one of the other three. Proceed to troubleshoot those in an appropriate forum.

Please disregard any advice that involves format in a data recovery scenario.
