Ok well i purchased a new PC with Windows XP Home sp2 installed. The HDD is SATA wich ive never seen before this.. I installed my old HDD (Windows XP Pro sp1) and set it to slave.. i didnt really understand the SATA master/slave process as it only had 4 pins and 2 options (Limit to 1.5 Gb/s Operation & 3 Gb/s Operation[which involves no little thingys on any pins]) i figured maybe putting the little thing on the opposite set of pins (that doesnt deal with the gb/s limit) would be master/ slave control. I changed boot priority in the advanced BIOS to boot the original SATA drive as master it worked! i got to go on the new HDD and access the old HDD through My Computer... i left the cpu running all night, in the morning i turned it off and tried to restart later... no luck, it booted to the login screen and then rebooted and went into a continual process of rebooting... i went back to bios settings changed the old HDD to boot first and it works fine... i unplugged the old HDD and reset the boot priority to see if the SATA would work alone like when i first purchased the PC... no luck it still reboots over and over... both HDD's are Seagate
SATA hdd: Seagate barracuda 7200.10 320 GB Old HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 120 GB ANY help would be greatly appreciated.. ive looked on google and found similar problems but withought a solution.. please help me figure this out.. Im on my New PC running my OLD hdd! HELP! |
