Occurring slow hard drive problem
For the last several weeks I have been having trouble with my hard drive suddenly running slow. I have run McAfee antivirus, Microsoft Defender, Ad-Aware, CCleaner, have defrag hard drive. I've also run the Hardware Diagnostic Tool and updated all the drivers.
I bought the HP computer 3 months ago so it is new. But after I reinstall VISTA, the hard drive runs fine for 6-8 days, then same problem. I have even tried downgrading to XP and once again 6 days later, slow hard drive. I have talked to HP support tech and they basically told me to do everything I have already done, but to do it again. Would disabling the USB Mass Storage Device (multi card reader) cause this over a few days? Here are my computer specs: Model: HP m8430f Processor: Intel Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz Memory: 4.00 GB OS 64-bit OS VISTA Video Card: GeForce 8500GT Hard Drive Seagate 750 GB SATA 3G 7200 rpm Thank you for any help or suggestions in solving this problem. Re: Occurring slow hard drive problem
Here is the PSU
HP 5188-2625 Power supply - 300-watt (Merlot C) regulated I haven't experienced any freezing or restarting, just gets very slow and the Windows Experience Index drops from 5.9 to 2.1 for the hard drive. Thanks, Shadowhawk |

Hey mate,
You are underpowered... Check this out: Power Supply Information and Selection You should get yourself at least 550W PSU... Hope this will help you...

Re: Occurring slow hard drive problem
Hi,
Are you running Vista now? Try disabling Hibernation. How to: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920730/en-us Also - disable system restore temporarily. Run CleanUp and Auslogics Disk Defrag. |

Re: Occurring slow hard drive problem
Hey Vladimir
When you have a underpowered PSU, would that be temp fixed when reinstalling VISTA or XP? Is there a setting in the BIOS that changes the PSU setting? I talked to HP Tech again today. They had me run this: vssadmin list shadowstorage vssadmin resize shadowstorage /On=C: /For=C: /Maxsize=3GB HP said this should fix the problem. I haven't seen this before so I don't know enough yet on what this does. To answer your question Eneles, I am running VISTA 64 right now. I had installed XP before but it also ran into this problem. Have also run CCleaner and Disk Defrag, Chkdisk. Thank you for your input and suggestions, Shadowhawk |
