Win98/NTFS drive[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]
Hi,
I have a spare 37.1 GB hard drive formatted NTFS. Can I use this as a second drive in a Win 98 computer -- just for additional storage space? The drive is currently installed as a second drive on an XP computer. I thought of reformatting it to FAT 32, but that's not an option on the XP computer. I am able to access a shared folder on this secondary drive from the 98 computer through our LAN. Thanks, Mark |

Re: Win98/NTFS drive[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]
Hi,
Welcome to TSF! Windows 98 cannot see or use a NTFS partition. It was able to see it on the network because it was looking through the XP computer and not directly at the NTFS partition. You can reformat it to FAT 32 by using a Windows 98 boot disk. Paul

Re: Win98/NTFS drive[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]
Thanks Lead3 for the clarification.
couple other questions ... 1. Can I simply insert a Windows 98 boot disk in the XP computer (I guess after changing the boot-up sequence in Set-Up)? 2. Will I be able to see this second drive as an option to reformat after booting up with the 98 boot disk? I would hate to reformat the primary drive by mistake. 3. I thought there was a size limit for Win 98 and that this 37.1 GB drive exceeded that. -? |

Re: Win98/NTFS drive[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]
1. You can use the 98 boot disk in the XP computer.
2. It has been a whlie since I've used this so I don't remember the screens that come up but I would disconnect the XP drive while I was formating the Fat 32 drive so that there is no chance for error. 3. There is a limit but it is much more than 37GB. I have used 80 and 120GB drives with Windows 98SE. Paul
