Seagate 1TB (ST31000340AS) speed and temperature issues
Hi i recently brought a 1TB segate barracuda (ST31000340AS) and since using have noticed that after about 10min of use it heats up and the write speeds drops right down to 8MBps from 50-100MBps. Also it runs significantly hotter than any of my other seagate drives. the 1TB drive is running at around 68degC.
Just wondering if anyone else who has this drive is experiencing this issue? here is a link to HD Tune image of the hard drive in mid fault during a write test: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...40ASwriteW.png there appears to be no issues with reading data from the disk, even when it is running hot (which is all the time). Any experience with this drives normal operating conditions would be appreciated. |

Re: Seagate 1TB (ST31000340AS) speed and temperature issues
That doesn't sound normal, sounds faulty, try taking it back, exchange for a new one.
For the meantime, how is your computer stored? Does it have good airflow, whats the average temp of the entire computer??

Re: Seagate 1TB (ST31000340AS) speed and temperature issues
airflow is fine, it does sit near some other seagate hard drives of mine but they run at normal tempratures (35-40degc). i've removed the drive and been runing it in an external enclosure via esata and it runs a little cooler. however i'm sure that the heat is not due to sufficient cooling. also i returned the first drive back to the suppiler and had it replaced and i still get the same issues. i've tried these drives in other pcs as well and they have the same slow speeds and temperature issues. I'm starting to think there might have been a faulty batch.

Re: Seagate 1TB (ST31000340AS) speed and temperature issues
thats the plan at the moment, i was looking at the western digital 1tb drive but tomshardware doesnt rate it very well and its more expensive in my area. i think i'll have to try and get a refund and wait it out.
otherwise if anyone has any experience with this drive i'd like to know how its going. |
