Maxtor Basics 750gb External HDD

I purchased a 750gb maxtor drive around 3 months ago and It was working fine until now.
I Connected it to my laptop today and ... nothing. No lights, no sounds, nothing. I have tried using a different power cable, Still nothing. I know the data cable is fine because it works with my mp4 player. The only thing I can think of is that somehow the power interface in the casing somehow failed.
Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.
