[SOLVED] installing an EIDE hard drive to a system with a SCSI configuration
hi i am trying to install an EIDE hard drive to my system that currently has a 30gb SCSI drive, i want to boot from the SCSI drive but when i attach the EIDE drive it does not try to boot from the SCSI anymore, (and i have not formatted the EIDE drive yet so it gives me an error)
i also have a DVD writer which i think is set to secondary master and the logical thing i thought was to connect the EIDE hard drive to the slave part of the IDE cable (the master part of it already being connected to the DVD writer) but i get an error, was wondering if someone knows what i can do? thanks, below is my current system stats Intellistation M Pro Windows XP SP2 2.8GHz Pentium 1GB Memory LG Multi DVD Rewriter |

Re: installing an EIDE hard drive to a system with a SCSI configuration
make sure the jumper on your slave drive is set for slave and not master for jumper settings look on the label of your slave drive if you cant find them you may have to do some hunting online

Re: installing an EIDE hard drive to a system with a SCSI configuration
Check the boot order in BIOS - it probably picks the IDE drive first.
If you have an HDD connected to the same ribbon cable as a CD/DVD drive, the latter will slow the hard drive down (unless it's an ATA33 HDD). |

Re: installing an EIDE hard drive to a system with a SCSI configuration
thx everyone, uh lets see, i know the optical drive is connected as the secondary master and if i connect the hard drive to the same ribbon cable the hard drive will be the secondary slave.
there is another slot on my motherboard, for an ide cable i think its the primary master, i connected the eide hard drive to it and the computer still boots from it, i want to boot from the scsi, so when i disconnect the eide it botts from the scsi, BIOS is like a puzzle, i will try to get more info on the BIOS if it helps, but i think there is an option where i can boot from net 0? idk it was suggested by my friend that i try connecting the eide hd as a primary slave i wonder if that will work, thx for all your help any more info will always be appreciated |

Re: installing an EIDE hard drive to a system with a SCSI configuration
thx everyone i figured it out with your help and sadly Microsofts, but anyways this is how i did it, i knew the dvd was working with the ide so i disconnected it and plugged in the hard drive, the scsi finally booted, the hard disk was detected but i couldn't see it, i looked up, "managing hard drives" or "disk management" or something similar on google and microsofts page came up and showed me how to run the disk management program, so i look at it and it says my scsi drive was "disk 1" and then everything just came into place i saw the ide and it was "disk 0" so anyways i plugged everything back in dvd and then i plugged the ide to the secondary master, and changed the bios to run "disk 1" see before i thought "disk 1" was the ide so i disabled it, thats why it didn't run, but anyways i got it up , thx everyone
