OS: Win Xp 32 bit SP2

Lacie 1TB external hdd failure

Hi All

I have an external 1TB usb/firewire Lacie drive. It consists of 4 x Maxtor 250 GB hdd,s.
The drive(s) is not being recognised by the Win XP sp2 OS. It has been in use for two years and has now decided not to be recognised.
When I click on the drive a box pops up asking is I want to format the drive.
I have decided to pull the drives out of the Lacie case and attempt to utilise the drives singulary.
1. Each drive only shows up when viewing disk management and it shows them as 128 GB not 250 GB. The drives are put into a USB case (external) 1 at a time for 'processing' and all record the same details.
Can I somehow use these drives as single drives or are they somehow altered by Lacies controller in the case?....or are they indeed 'cactus'
