DISK READ ERROR OCCURRED!! what do i do?

I recently installed a new HD in a laptop that i am fixing up. i put in the windows xp home edition cd and went through all the steps, i even deleted the partition that was on there and made a new one and installed xp on that. after the computer rebooted to go to the next step an error appeared saying "disk read error occurred press ctrl, alt, del to restart. i did this over and over again. i went to the recovery console and tried everything you can think of and then reinstalled xp and the same thing happened. WHAT CAN I DO?!?!?

Re: DISK READ ERROR OCCURRED!! what do i do?

The drive maybe the problem. Try booting into the BIOS and doing the hard drive self test in there. If it doesn't work then try the manufacturer's tests.

The only other thing I can think of is the mother board. Maybe even processor. It sure isn't software issues.

Re: DISK READ ERROR OCCURRED!! what do i do?

well i bought this laptop off of ebay and the guy said that he used it to and that it did work. so i dont think there is anything wrong with the computer itself. and then i bought the hard drive from a company that refurbishes them so im probably thinking its the hard drive itself. ive heard that alot of people have this problem and some of them are able to fix it and some arent so idk. but i just ordered a new hard drive to replace it. im waiting to see if it really is the laptop that is causing the problem or not. stuff like this is frustrating.
