Portable Hard Drive Problem
I just purchased a new Omni USB portable hard drive for my computer but 'My Computer'/Windows Explorer does not recognise it. When i connect it into the USB slot, it appears to install, and the 'safely remove hardware' is there, but it does not appear in My Computer.
I have tried to partition it through Disk Management, but it does not appear there either. I am running Windows XP. The package came with a driver disk but it only works for Win 98 etc. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? Thanks! |

Re: Portable Hard Drive Problem
Hey mate,
you are trying to plug external HDD into front panel USB ports or ones that resides at the back of the case??? Also, it would be nice if you can plug HDD to some other PC and see what will happen... If other PC sees HDD, then problem is your USB ports... BTW, your USB ports can see other plugable devices, like USB stick or something like that??? |

Re: Portable Hard Drive Problem
I've tried it in both the front and back USB ports but it still doesn't seem to work. And with other computers.
What it seems to do is that the computer recognises it, states that the software is loaded and ready for use, but then I go into My Computer and it is not there. |

Re: Portable Hard Drive Problem
Bought the same "omni" HD 120 Gb, same problem, resolve it today!
Here the solution. 1. Plug HD into USB port (does not matter which one) 2. Go control panel (enable classic view) 3. Administrative Tools 4.Computer management 5.Under storage (make sure it it - on the left), click on disk management, it will show the HD but it will say "unallocated" point the mouse on the black line, right click and select partion, the process will guide you through and at the end computer will recognise it as drive E:. Hope it will help!
