Exclamation WD 500 Gig Turns On... Doesn't Respond To Computer

Hey,

Whenever I plug in my Western Digital 500 Gigabyte Hard Drive with a firewire and a power plug, it turns on, but the files aren't showing up on my computer and when I click on the drive in the explorer menu, it won't open and the window freezes. I have no idea what to do. It turns on, but I can't access the files from it. Autoplay shows up, but it doesn't show that the computer is reading the files. The ring of light moves, however, it stays still afterwords and just lights up without any indication that the drive is working. I also hear a tiny buzzing sound that goes on and off rapidly over and over.

I need any help I can get and will appreciate all the help I can get.

Thank you

Use my procedure in the signature to attempt recovery.

The buzzing you hear is a very bad sign. Do not attempt to use the drive. If you are lucky, my procedure will work. Otherwise, your problem is very expensive.

That isn't necessarily the answer I hoped for, but I'll take it. Thanks so much for your help and enlightenment. I'll try my best and post results here. Thank you again!
