Hard drive not working after PSU change

Hi,

Recently I returned to my computer to find it completely dead. After checking all the cables and inspecting the internal components I figured it was the PSU that had burnt out.

Not a problem, I bought a similarly sized PSU unit from ebay to replace it. But it had no SATA type connectors and as my HD had no molex point I also bought set of molex-sata adapters.

On first reboot everything seemed fine, but the problem is the hard drive is not being recognised. I've checked the molex points on the CD drive and they work normally.

Is it a problem with the power supplly or has the hard drive gone too? It's a maxtor drive that came with the system, I'm unsure what model it is.

I'd be grateful if anyone could help me out with this.

Cheers

Re: Hard drive not working after PSU change

Hey mate,
check in BIOS if it is visible...
What error you see on display???
If you can, unplug HDD and hook it to one of yours friend PC and see if HDD is visible on his/her PC...
Report back please...

Re: Hard drive not working after PSU change

Thanks for the quick response.

Can't check HD in friends system right now but the error message is "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"

Re: Hard drive not working after PSU change

Fixed it!

In the end, I checked the BIOS and saw the hard drive was no longer listed on the bootup list. I suppose the PSU change wiped the boot up settings.
