HDD strangely slow to respond at first

Hello,

I've got a brand new 1TB SATA-2 HDD, nicely partitioned in 4, and only holding data (no OS or bootable thing).

The issue is the following: The very first access made to *any* of the 4 partitions results in a 2-3 second pause where the system sort of "hangs", and then all proceeds as normal.

While "hanging", OODLed indicates intensive read activity, and ProcessExplorer shows absolutely no I/O...

The 2nd access to a partition is normal (no "hang"). But, after a while, the strange behaviour comes back :(

Thanks in advance.

Re: HDD strangely slow to respond at first

1TB is pushing the limits of hard drive stability. If I were to require that much space, I would use multiple 320GB drives at the most!

Agreed. SATAII, a handful of heads, and only so many platters will work before you start getting to cross reading, among other errors.

For proper support: what are you running? video card, cpu, m/board, ram, power supply, brand, wattage, any error message?
PCI-E requires 26 amps at 12 volts. That's a 650W PSU.
Power Supply Info and Selection . Info on thermal compounds & application . TEST PSU USING MULTI-METER
