transfer hard drive from laptop to desktop
My laptop is still under warranty and i want to send it to HP for repair, I can't power the laptop (which runs Windows XP Office) to get a back up, which is absolutely necessary before I send them the laptop for repair as there is sensitive client data stored on hard drive. I last backed up about 2 months ago and don't want to have to recreate 2 months of work. I was thinking maybe I could remove the hard drive and install on my desktop pc (which runs Windows XP Home Edition) then do a back up. Does anyone have any advice on this or help that might save my 2 months of work?

Remove the HDD and install it in an external inclosure.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817348021

Re: transfer hard drive from laptop to desktop
Ok - Thank you so much for getting back so quickly - I have a Maxtor external drive. Can you tell me how to get this job done. I am no computer expert, but I have taken my laptop apart and reassembled successfully, so I think I could manage this. Any advice would be helpful. Please remember, I need fairly simple terms:)
Thanks, Kelly |

Re: transfer hard drive from laptop to desktop
You will need to have an enclosure that matches your drive size 2.5" and interface IDE or SATA.

Re: transfer hard drive from laptop to desktop
If the external encloser will not work, you can use something like this.
